Races

Character Creation

Choose a race first, these are all built to PL 2. Combine your chosen race with an occupation, built to PL 5. Then spend another 15 power points to tweak and customize the character. Spend them on ability scores, feat ranks, skill ranks or power feats for any powers you may have.
As an example; Bob wants to create a powerful Telepath. He chooses the Ept as a race and combines it with the occupation, Telepath. The bonuses and ranks from Ept and Telepath stack, and Bob has a Power Level 7 character. Bob then spends 15 power points to personalize his character (raising it to Power Level 8).

A Note On Biology

Since the "seed of life" was the same across the Milky Way, the biology of the individual races is essentually the same. While the races may have unique cosmetic differences, their hearts, lungs, and so on are all in the same place. A human doctor from Earth could easily assist a doctor from any of the other races on their respective homeworlds. This also means that most of the races are sexually compatable with others. A child of a mixed species couple has a 94.7% chance of being of the same race as the mother. There are no "half-races" in the galaxy, but the child of a Rasch female and Human male may turn out Rasch, but with a distinctly human skin tone.

Culture and Personality
From the outer reaches of the Milky Way, the Ept are possibly the oldest intelligent race in the galaxy besides the Nibirians. The Ept began exploring other systems while humanity on Earth was just begining it's evolution. They are responsible for technological revolutions in both the Rasch and the Virago cultures. The Ept are certainly active in galactic politics, It was the they who developed The Telepath Trust Act. Adopted by most systems across the galaxy, the Act states that all Telepaths must register with that system's government in order to practice legally in the Milky Way. There is also a "code of conduct" to be upheld in order to remain registered and the Ept and the Galatic Authority uphold this Act as Galactic law. They also created the Galactic Trade and Merchant Code and established the galactic credits (gc) monetary system used across the Milky Way. It is not unusual to find Ept in different positions of authority across the galaxy and many of the Galatic Authority's higher ranking officials are Ept. A majority of Ept worship the Nibirians as deities. Any person that practices worship of the Nibirians studies the religion created by the Ept.
The Ept have no spoken language, only written, since they communicate with eachother telepathicaly. The average Ept is a quiet individual who is confident and politely secretive. All Ept follow some sort of code of honor, even if the definition of "honor" is twisted at times. For instance, an Ept Raider may follow his own personal "Raider's Code". Though the Ept are respected by all, their true allies are the Rasch and Virago. For more information, see the Eridani System.

Physical Appearance
The Ept have the same features and body hair as humans. They are also simularly built, with an average height of 6' for males, and 5'7" for females. Skin tones vary from pale green to a dark brown-green and their hair tends to be dark brown or black. Their iris colors are various greens, blues, and purples. When an Ept uses it's natural Telepathy, their pupils enlarge to the point of turning their entire eye black. This is often an unnerving sight to their victims. Ept have twin ridges on their skulls from front to back that are often raised above their hair. The male's ridges connect in the front on the forehead, while the female's fade at the forehead, just above the brow. Ept often dress in either tight white, grey or black jumpsuits or loose robes.

Character Mechanics
Ept can choose any Class, but they excel as Telepaths. Their natural ranks in Telepathy stack with the Telepath ranks, so an Ept Telepath starts with 12 ranks in Telepathy. This also raises all Alternate Powers by no more than 8 power points (Emotion Control 12, Mental Blast 6, Mind Control 11, and Stun 7).

Culture and Personality
By the 30th century, humans had achieved a kind of world peace as space exploration became more important, and financially beneficial, than war. Colonization of Sol System planets, and later in other systems, has become one of the most sought-after achievements of humankind. Cybernetic augmentation had already become a kind of fashion statement, but space exploration made the Integrated Artificial Intelligence (I.A.I.) a necessity. Other races, especially the Strahg, frown on Human's willingness to merge technology with their bodies. Human's strongest allies are the Ept and the Rasch. Human personality is just as versitile as always as is their religions. Humans have even began adopting other culture's religions, particularly the Ept's worship of Nibirians.

Physical Appearance
They're human, so...

Character Mechanics
The I.A.I. gives Humans the following powers: Boost 7 (personal, any one ability at a time), Datalink 2, Danger Sense (radar), Detect (atmospheric conditions/toxins). The intelligence is self aware and knows that it's host survival is of the utmost importance. Humans are very versitile and can be of any class. A majority of humans out in the Milky Way belong to the Pioneer class.

Culture and Personality
The Kharis (CAR-iss) are known as the luckiest race in the galaxy. Most are highly skilled entrepreneurs, traders and merchants. When the Ept established the Galactic Trade and Merchant Code, the Kharis gladly stepped in as the primary enforcers of the code. Anyone found in a breach of contract with the GTMC answers to the Kharis Galactic Union. The Kharis homeworld is also home to some of the largest galactic financial institutions. A common saying goes, "If you're going to break a deal, then don't deal with a Kharis". Most Kharis are very charming, diplomatic, and well spoken. Kharis are usally the calm voice of reason in galactic debates, and they are the only race in the Milky Way that has not been at war with another in history. Kharis don't necessaraly have an established religion. If asked, a Kharis will probably tell you that finance is their religion. For more information, see the Kornephoros System.

Physical Appearance
Other than the Virago, the Kharis are the most human-looking race in the galaxy. Their skin tones vary as much as humans, though they tend to be much more pale. Their eyes are usually various shades of green or blue. Kharis have long and thin arching eyebrows and their hair colors tend to be various shades of brown to black. Kharis often wear their hair in extreme and ornamented styles. They tend to dress in colorful, ornamented and expensive styles. Kharis silk is one of the most valuable (and expensive) fabrics in the galaxy.

Character Mechanics
Kharis can be any class but benefit greatly from charisma bonuses offered by Criminal and Telepath. Their natural ranks in luck stack with those in the Criminal and Pioneer classes, starting them off with 4 ranks in luck (and thus 5 hero points).

Culture and Personality
The Rasch (RASK) are considered to be the youngest race of the galaxy, since their home system is located so much more close to the galactic center then any others. The Rasch went from a fairly primitive culture to space exploration over night, geologically speaking. The have made exploration and coloniztion their culture, and no matter where one may find themselves in the galaxy, they'd be hard pressed not to bump into a Rasch. The Strahg commonly refer to the Rasch as "galactic vermin". Most Rasch are eager, charasmatic and headstrong. They are well known as risk-takers and thrillseekers. THe Rasch strongest allies are the Ept and Humans, whom they view as fellow explorers. Most Rasch practice the Ept's worship of Nibirians, though a minority stick with their primitive worship of their moons and stars. For more information, see the Roteneve System.

Physical Appearance
One of the least human looking races in the galaxy, The Rasch skin tones vary in shades from light to dark blue. They have large, pointed ears and are compleatly hairless. Their irises match their pupils giving them nearly solid black eyes. Rasch also have three joint articulated legs and their feet have two large toes with a third high on the ankle. As the Rasch homeworld is quite warm, they tend to dress in shorts, t-shirts and vest that are colored in earth-tones. Any kind of armor, pants, or footwear must be customized for the Rasch unique lower extremeties.

Character Mechanics
Rasch can be any class though most tend to be Pioneers. They benefit from the dexterity boost offered by the Kinetic and Criminal classes, and their natural ranks in speed stack with the Kinetic's ranks, starting them with 5 ranks in Speed (250mph!).

Racial Feat: Rage 2
Racial Powers: Impervious Toughness 2

Culture and Personality
The Strahg (STROG) are the most aggressive warrior race in the Milky Way. At some point in the history of the galaxy, the Strahg have had some sort of military conflict with every other sentient race in the galaxy. When the Strahg aren't in a conflict with another galactic race, then they're fighting eachother. They're a clan based culture that goes back to their primitive days, and the clans don't usually get along with eachother. Strahg clans will battle for supremacy of the empire, for insults to their honor, or any other number of reasons. There have been a total of five Strahg "world wars", where all the different clans (nations) were involved. They once concidered total domination of the Milky Way their ultimate goal, however, there are some Strahg that still do. The Strahg value honor in battle to the utmost degree. Dying in glorious battle is much prefered over death of old age or natural causes. Entire clan conflicts have started just so that an important Strahg, dying of old age, can die instead in battle. Their only allies consist of the Virago, whom they view as honarable combatants and professional rivals. They've deitized an ancient Strahg who once united the clans, known as Strahmon. A few Strahg have begun to worship Nibirians as the Ept do. For more information, see the Sarhgas System.

Physical Appearance
Strahg are very human-like, save for their very tough cartilage exoskeletons which appear as a type of natural plate armor. Their skin, eye and hair colors vary as much as humans, but their exoskeletons form ridges where their eyebrows should be. Both male and female Strahg usually keep their head hair shaved close if not shaven off. They often dress in ornamental armors or fanciful uniforms.

Character Mechanics
Strahg can choose any class, but a vast majority of them are of the Soldier class. Strahg benefit most from the Kinetic's and Peacekeeper's constitution bonus. Their Impervious Toughness can be stacked with Soldier's, Engineer's, Peacekeeper's, and Pioneer's Impervious Protection of 3, starting a Strahg character with an impervious toughness bonus of 6.

Racial Feat: Die Hard
Racial Powers: Immunity 2 (critical hits)

Culture and Personality
The Virago (vee-RAH-go) are a matriarchal warrior race. The female of the species assume the dominate role in Virago society. They tend to value logic and knowledge in battle above all else. Though militant, they are not quite as so as the Strahg. The Virago are militant for the purposes of security and maintenance of their societal structure, not so much for conquering. The Virago have only ever been in galactic conflict with the Strahg and the Rasch, but have since allied with both societies. They tend to be matter-of-fact and no nonsense. They have little tolerance for those that seem illogical or ignorant, including their own. Their major intergalactic allies are the Ept and the Strahg, who are tolerated as professional rivals and valued military assets. Most Virago worship the Nibirians as they were influenced by the Ept in the Virago ancient times. Very few of the Virago remember the ancient tribunal of seven deities that were worshiped in more primitive times. For more information, see the Aquilie System.

Physical Appearance
The Virago could be easily mistaken for human, were it not for their natural height which averages around 7' tall. In every other way, the Virago look human including skin, eye, and hair color. Most female Virago are extremely desirable to humans, though female Virago despise the thought of being subjected to a male dominated society.

Character Mechanics
Virago can be any class, though most females are of the Soldier or Peacekeeper classes, while males tend to be either Engineers or Telepaths. The Virago benefit from the Peacekeeper's strength bonus, as well as the Telepath's wisdom bonus. The fact that the Virago are hard to kill, and immune to critical hits make them excellent Soldiers.

Non-Player Races

Anunnaki

Known as the oldest and most influential race in the Milky Way, the Anunnaki (an-oon-NOCK-KEY) hail from a planet known as Nibiru, and are often refered to as "Nibirians". Though technically part of the Sol system, Nibiru not only orbits Sol but also Proxima Centauri. Very little is known about the Anunnaki. What is known is that they have extremely long life-spans (some even consider them immortal), and that they are ruled by a high king known as Anu. Their technology is also much more advanced than anything else in the galaxy. It's the Anunnaki that sactioned and provide the tech for the Galactic Authority. Every sentient race in the galaxy has been influenced by the Anunnaki in some form or another, whether they know it or not. The Anunnaki look just like humans with just as many variations, however, their average height is about 7 1/2 - 8' tall, and their cranium is elongated. Very few people, even amoung the Ept, can say they've come face to face with a member of this race.

Thymos

The Thymos (THEE-mos) aren't so much considered a "galactic race". They lack the technology to venture into the Milky-Way themselves and do not have armadas or even a small fleet. Instead, the Thymos find themselves among the stars by virtue of their natural "talents". They release pheromones that effect the emotions of others. While the Thymos have the ability to instill fear, despair, and hate in others, a majority of them choose instead calm, hope, and in particular, love. When the Kharis first discovered the race, they immediately saw an opportunity and began "aiding" the Thymos by turning their system into the leisure and pleasure capital of the galaxy. Since then, the Thymos have managed to spread across the galaxy at an alarming rate for a civilization with no interstellar capabilites. Anywhere one finds a night-club, brothel, or other type of buisiness of ill-repute, they are sure to find several Thymos entertaining there. Thymos are an extremely attractive people with skin that varies in tones of red, with black hair and red irises. Male or female, they are desired by many across the galaxy.

Vlek

The Vlek are little more than a plague on the galaxy. Legend says that during the First Strahg Uprising, a Strahg commander landed a small fleet on the Vlek homeworld. The Strahg soldiers were overtaken by the primitive Vlek due to sheer numbers and took the fleet for themselves. Since that time, the Vlek haven't developed any known tech of their own, instead, they raid and steal from others to add to their raider fleets. They are mostly unorganized groups, but have been known to band together in order to take down large ships. The Vlek are a cannibal race, feasting on any others they come across in the galaxy. An attempt was made to eradicate the Vlek by destroying their homeworld. The attack was successful, but since there were so many Vlek off-world, they remain a problem. Vlek anatomy is comparable to humans, though they have colorless skin, dark hair, solid black eyes, and only nasal passages (no nose to speak of). Their teeth are naturally pointed and sharp and their fingertips are clawed.

Other Races

There are at least 10 other known sentient races in the galaxy, but these are not technologically advanced societies. The Galactic Authority has a no-interference policy in place for these races who have yet to reach other planets in their own systems.
